Loftet doesn't know who your child is. The app never asks your child for a name, an age or an email address.

You, the parent, can make an account with your email address, so the games follow your child from one device to the next. It's optional, and Loftet works just as well without one.

In short

  • Games and settings are stored on this device.
  • Each finished game is also sent to us, without a name and without anything that shows who played. We use the games to make the toys better.
  • Loftet sets no cookies. There are no ads, no tracking and no analytics, and the app loads nothing from other websites.
  • We don't sell what we receive, and we don't pass it on.
  • If you make an account, we store your email address and the games on the account. See "If you make an account".

What is stored on this device

  • the last hundred games: the moves, the result, the date and time, and which helpers were used
  • a game that isn't finished, so your child can pick it up later
  • the mascot buttons your child has won, and the day each one was won
  • the settings: sound, show legal moves, board and pieces, and language
  • games and messages waiting to be sent once the device is back online
  • the app's own files, so Loftet works without the internet

Stats, streaks and the Logbook are worked out from the games and are not stored separately.

  • How to delete it. "Delete all games" in Settings removes the games, a game that is waiting, and the buttons. If the device is signed in to an account, the games and buttons are deleted from the account too, on every device. Clearing Loftet's site data in the browser's settings removes everything.

What is sent to us

Finished games

When a game ends, including when your child leaves it or starts a new one, Loftet sends it to us. If the device is offline, the game waits until it is back online. This is everything that is sent:

  • the moves, the starting position, the result and how the game ended
  • the toy, fun game or battle, and the color your child played
  • the helpers used, and on which move
  • the engine's notes on the toy's moves, and who was ahead after each move
  • the day the game was played, but not the time
  • the Loftet and engine versions, and a number that lets us replay the toy's moves exactly

In the game file your child is always called "Spiller" (Norwegian for "player").

Not sent: a name, an age, an email address, the time of day, the language, anything about the device or the browser, or any number that could recognize your child or the device. Our server refuses anything not on the list above, and anything that looks like a name, an email address or an ID number.

The games show us how the toys play against real children. We use that to tune them.

Report a problem

A message is sent only when someone writes one and taps Send. Then this is sent:

  • the text. Email addresses and phone numbers in the text are replaced before the message leaves the device.
  • the toy picked in the form, if one was picked
  • the page of Loftet the form was opened from
  • the Loftet and engine versions

The form has no email field. The message arrives without a sender, so we can't reply. If you need an answer, email support@sjakkpass.com.

What we keep, and for how long

We keep what was sent, and the day it arrived. We don't keep the IP address it came from, or the time.

We keep the games for as long as we use them to improve the toys. We delete messages after one year.

Nothing in a game shows who played it. That is why we can't find one family's games afterwards, either. It is on purpose.

Loftet runs on Cloudflare's servers. As with any website, the server sees the device's IP address when it connects. Loftet does not store it with games or messages.

If you make an account

The account is for you, the parent, and it's optional. You type your email address in Settings, we send you a six-digit code, you type it in, and the device is signed in for a year. There is no password.

What the account stores:

  • your email address, in lowercase
  • the name you typed, if you typed one: it shows only on your child's own screens, and it is never written into a game or into the copy that reaches us without a name
  • whether you checked the box for news about Loftet and Sjakkpass, and the day you ticked it or withdrew it
  • the games on the account, as they are on the device
  • the mascot buttons your child has won, and the day each was won
  • one line per signed-in device: a hashed fingerprint of the sign-in, the day it started and the day it was last used. The sign-in itself is only on the device.

We store no password (there isn't one), no IP address, and no time of day on any of this. The code we send works for 15 minutes, once, and is deleted after five wrong tries.

The email with the code goes out through Brevo, a French company that keeps mail in the EU. Brevo counts how many emails are opened, without tying it to you. The email has no links.

The games on the account are the same games that are on the device. The difference is that the ones on the account belong to your email address. The copy sent to us without a name (the section above) is separate, and that copy still doesn't know who played.

  • How to sign out, and how to delete the account. "Sign out" in Settings removes the sign-in from this device and leaves the games alone. "Delete the account" sends you a code; type it in and confirm, and your email address, the games on the account, the checkbox and the sign-in on every device all go. It can't be undone. The games on the device stay.

A later version of Loftet will connect the account to a Sjakkpass account with the same email address. We'll update this page before that happens.
